RV Explorer Uncovers Fabled WWI German U-Boat Wreckage off Virginia Coast

RV Explorer had the incredible opportunity to be part of a historic discovery. In an exclusive expedition off the coast of Virginia, our crew and found the long-lost wreckage of a fabled German U-boat from World War I. A National Geographic article describes how the sunken U-boat, which had been the subject of numerous myths and legends, was finally located using advanced diving technology including sonar and underwater ROVs. The discovery sheds new light on the naval history of the war and provides valuable insights into the tactics and capabilities of German submarines at the time. Our findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the conflict and serve as a testament to the importance of preserving and exploring our underwater heritage.
